Creepy Crawler

Little Man is a creepy crawler! No, he isn't crawling yet but he is creeping (a.k.a. slithering). Our little wiggle worm has been rolling all over his crib for a couple of months but now he is intentionally inching forward for toys and things of interest (we put him in one corner and the toys in the other). Although he has been trying diligently to get the legwork down for crawling, his right leg won't cooperate. Guess we had better start baby-proofing the house.

Little Man has also discovered we have a dog...she has always been here and always had a thing for Little Man but only recently has Little Man noticed she exists and boy does he think she is funny. Thankfully, Daisy is not only protective of him she is very patient as Little Man pokes, prods and sticks fingers in her eyes...she only licks in return. Thank God for small blessings.

Spittin' Image

Trav's brother and sister-in-law, Tristan and Leslie, came to visit this week all the way from Kansas; we had a lot of fun catching up and hanging out. Little man seemed mesmerized by his Uncle (every picture of them together looks like this) and I think we finally figured out that he might be a little confused by how much his uncle looks like his dad ... I think a lot of people get confused by how many of the men in my life look like Travis. Little man got lots of good snuggle time with his Aunt Leslie and even slept peacefully in her arms all the way through church (why doesn't he do that for me???).

Travis had to work today but little man and I made a trek up to the fire station to see him and we had a lot of fun hanging out with the guys. We really thought that Little man would enjoy looking at all of the bright colors of the fire trucks but he was so much more interested in the captain's mustache. Who knew?

Now I've Seen It All

Nana, Little Man and I went to my cousin's baby shower this weekend and had a lot of fun catching up with family and playing games. I've been to a few baby showers in my time and played a variety of games but the one that took the cake at this shower was the "smell the diaper" game where various candybars are melted into a diaper and you have to guess which candy bar it is .... just a little tooooo lifelike for my taste but makes for a great picture! Nana was racking up the prizes and won both the "How Many Skittles In The Bottle" game and the "Name That Baby Food" game

No Peeking!

So I am officially obsessed with the baby monitor. I wake up no less than 20 times a night to glance over and "check" on the baby. Sick, I know. However, it occurred to me that the lure to sneak a peek is not unlike the lure to look at a sonogram picture over and over again; black and white, fuzzy, hard to distinguish between parts and the chance to see something you ordinarily wouldn't be able to see from your vantage point. So until I am able to cut the umbilical cord, this is one obsession I've come to terms with.

Southern Comfort

Little Man is sleeping in his own room...by mandate of the pediatrician ... and the dog is now sleeping in her crate ... by mandate of the husband... (it is waaaaay too hot and her fur coat right up against our legs is unbearable). Honestly, the change is so much more difficult for me than for him; he is sleeping so peacefully whereas I find myself checking the video monitor at least 20 times a night. I feel bad that he is all alone in that big room by himself so I gave him a little hippo to keep him company and he fell asleep this afternoon scratching the fur.....I need a hippo :(

This Little Piggie

Little Man has discovered a new favorite toy ... no, it is not one of his many soft cuddly bears, nor the brand new exersaucer mommy and daddy bought him, no, not even one of the developmental toys from his Nana ... his new favorite toy is .... his big toe! Ever since our little monkey was just a kidlet in the womb he has had a thing for his big toe. His little piggie made it's debut when Little Man used it to scratch his forehead during a sonogram when he was only 19 weeks in the oven and today it is masquerading as a chewtoy. Aunt Ashlie and Nana believe that Little Man is on his way to being left-handed ... it just so happens he only plays with his left toe .... I wonder what that means? If I had only known how entertaining a toe could be...

The Grass Is Always Greener

Meals have taken on a whole new meaning for our little family. Those of you who know Travis know just how important food is to him and how…shall I say... passionate he is about eating. It turns out that Little Man is equally as passionate and can scarf down food like a big boy, the problem is only about half of it actually makes it in his mouth. Inspired by a story my friend just shared with me about her dad watching her kiddos for the weekend and not using a single wipe (let’s just say the grass in the backyard by the garden hose is very green) I decided to get a little creative with cleanup. Little Man got a kick out of the makeshift shower and I got to test the absorbancy of his diapers. :)

Summertime And The Livin' Is Easy

We just got back from a weeklong trip with the fam' at the Watercolor Resort in beautiful Santa Rosa, Florida (near Destin). We were guests in a friend's vacation home known as the "Lily Pad" and had a wonderful time riding bicycles, kayaking, playing games, relaxing on the beach/pool and laughing as much as humanly possible. From the cobblestone streets to the gorgeous sand dunes and luxurious southern style homes the atmosphere made for a magical week and the perfect family vacation.

Little Man wasn't nearly as excited about the sun, surf or sand as the rest of the family was but he did have a lot of fun eating vegetables for the first time. Feeding him made me feel like we were competing in some kind of eating contest for babies. Guess the apple doesn't "rot" far from the tree (that was for you Hay). Oh and for the record, although I am a fair-skinned person, my son naturally appears to be very tan (no, Jackie, I do not secretly put him in a tanning bed) so when you see him this week please keep the "he sure got some sun!" comments to yourself ... there are no tanlines on that boy!

Aunt Ash and Nana were determined to get Little Man sitting up on his own this week and he seems to have figured it out although he doesn't have the trunk control to pull up to that position or maintain it for longer than 5 seconds (does that even count?).

All in all it was a wonderful week and hopefully the first in a long line of family vacations, even if we can only get the whole family there for a portion of the week (Adam and Jordan had to go back early). Guess I'm headed back to my windowless office and 60 degree INDOOR weather (my office neighbor keeps it really cold).
