Donuts with Dad

This morning Little Man's Mother's Day Out program had their annual Donuts with Dad celebration. It was so neat to see all of the daddies, grandpas and even uncles that attended and my girlfriend and I got a kick out of the number of confused/overwhelmed looks on some of the dad's faces as they tended to their kiddos and their breakfast without the help of mom. I'm not saying dads are incompetant, it was just obvious that some were more comfortable than others. I was so glad that Trav's job affords him so much time at home to take care of Little Man. What fun!!!!

Woof! Woof!

We are finally back to normal in the Block household; Little Man is over all of the crud and Trav is taking horomones that should have him back to normal in no time. Thanks to everyone who has been praying for Trav and following up on his progress.

This afternoon I arrived home and found that Little Man's Pop had finished his custom-made doghouse bed and installed it in his new room to surprise us all! The bed looks so great that Pop is considering selling some beds on the internet so if you know anyone who would be interested let me know!

Thirteen months seems waaaay too soon to move Little Man into a big boy bed, we know, but for the past few weeks he has been pulling himself up on the siderail of the crib and then balancing his head, shoulders and stomach over the edge. The crib is a the lowest setting, the bar is all the way up and there is nothing in his crib that he can use to stand on to get up on the bar so we have no idea how he is doing it but it is dangerous enough that we'd rather him fall from a short bed than from a crib. Pop is still building the railing for the bed (to keep him from rolling off of the bed) and Nana is making him a puppy dog quilt but it won't be long before we are moving him into his "big boy" room.

This weekend Little Man's Grandma Block is coming in to town to spend some time with him. Grandpa Block bought her tickets to visit Little Man every other month for the entire year! Trav and I are excited because we get to go on a date Saturday night while Grandma Block babysits - woo hoo!!

P.S. My dad is considering designing a few custom bed models for sale and I'm trying to help him think of theme ideas (castle, doll house, boat, etc.) If you have any ideas let me know!

He's A Chip.....

Little man has responded beautifully to the breathing treatments and is improving very quickly; it only took 4 sessions before we started to see that he was feeling better. He is still sleeping a lot and wheezing quite a bit but his personality has returned and he is laughing, giggling and screeching like normal. This afternoon he finally stopped fighting having to wear the mask and spent the 30 minutes blowing raspberries and humming along with the machine - he is a great patient just like his daddy!

Daddy To The Rescue!!!

Little man and every baby within a ten-mile radius got the Rotavirus last week and it was a doozy! By Sunday the stomach stuff seemed to have passed and he had begun to develop some kind of upper respiratory thing that the doctor thought might just be leftovers of the virus. However, this morning he woke up wheezing and had difficulty breathing so we took him to the pediatrician where we found out that he has RSV. Those of you who have been reading this blog since the beginning know how fearful we were that he would aquire RSV in the first few months after his birth because his lungs were underdeveloped from the premature birth. The doctor said that this particular case is pretty bad, even recommended admission for treatment, but assured us that it is not nearly as dangerous now as it would have been shortly after his birth. They sent us home with a nebulizer and some albuterol to give to him every three hours and we are supposed to return on Monday for some steroid shots.

THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING....I picked up the prescription on the way home and opened the package to load the vial on the nebulizer when Travis looked over and stopped me. He grabbed the package and read the dosage and said, "This isn't right. This is an adult dosage; this is what we carry on the ambulance." He called the pharmacist who assured us it was the right dosage but Travis was persistant and demanded they check the original scrip and sure enough, the pharmacist had read 1.25 as 2.5!!!!!! They were so relieved that we hadn't given him the dosage as it would have resulted in overdose with seizures and possible heart attack! The pharmacist promptly replaced the prescription with the right dosage and even refunded our money in hopes that we wouldn't pursue the matter further. All I can say is that I've never been more greatful that Trav is a paramedic. Praise God for smart daddies!!!! The pictures are of little man and the new fire truck that he got for Christmas.

I'm Baaaaack!

Well, I have finally emerged from the 'cave' known as my office and have rejoined the ranks of the social and friendly after a lengthy web design entrenchment. So many wonderful things have happened during my time away from the blog world, a few of which I will share with you now...

1. Can you say Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs???? All you Negative Noras who claim the Chiefs lucked into the playoffs must not have seen the Jaguar/Chiefs game on New Years Eve. Our little family braved the freezing cold, sleet and snow to watch the Chiefs and Little Man's Uncle J dominate the Jaguars in an upset that suprised seemingly everyone but those who know the Chiefs well. Indianapolic Colts, here we come!

2. Ask Little Man how old he is and he will hold up a grubby, fat little finger and say, "Bo". That's right....Little Man turned one! We have some fantastic birthday/christmas photos that you are more than welcome to peruse, if you would like, just email me at mblock@hocc.org for the site and password.

3. Little Man has lots of new tricks including throwing the football, kicking the soccer ball, blowing kisses, and several new words (cracker, nana, jordan, more, and cookie).

We had a wonderful holiday break (although most of it was spent working) that was filled with family, friends, food and lots and lots of laughs. Thanks to everyone who continues to read about our little ol' family; we hope you had a wonderful holiday season.
